Necesitado

Me encuentro, Señor

Ayúdame a ver, yo quiero saber

Lo que debo hacer

Muestra el camino

Que debo seguir

Señor, por mi bien, yo quiero vivir

Un día a la vez

(CORO) Un día a la vez, Dios mío

Es lo que pido de ti

Dame la fuerza para vivir

Un día a la vez

Ayer ya paso, Dios mío

Mañana, quizá no vendrá

Y mucha maldad

Señor, por mi bien, yo quiero vivir

Un día a la vez

(CORO)

Ayúdame hoy, yo quiero vivir

Un día a la vez

This reading honors the lives of Mamuka Artmeladze, Felix Alcorta-Rodriguez, Adrian Andreas Florian, and all those who have died hidden away within the walls of detention centers. We lay white flowers in their memory, refusing to let their names or dignity be erased.

I. The White Flowers of Remembrance / Las Flores Blancas del Recuerdo

Leader: We gather tonight under the shadow of a system that locks away our siblings, letting their breaths fade in quiet, commercialized cells. We remember the souls lost this past June behind the razor wire of detention centers—from Louisiana to Laredo, from Harlingen to the ends of the earth.

People: We place white flowers for those whose names we know, and for those whose names are known only to the Divine. We declare that no human life is expendable cargo, and no child of the Creator is an "illegal" presence on this earth.

Leader: The ancient prophets tell us that true righteousness is found in how we protect the captive and the vulnerable.

ALL:  May the walls of isolation crumble, and may our grief be transformed into an unyielding commitment to justice. Amen.

Scripture Reference / Referencia de la Escritura: "The Lord executes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free." — Psalm 146:7

Spanish liturgical and social justice hymn composed in 1972 by the Spanish priest and singer-songwriter Juan Antonio Espinosa. The song emerged alongside the Latin American Liberation Theology movement, focusing on themes of hope, love without borders, and building a more just humanity

Danos un Corazón Grande para amar
Danos un Corazón Fuerte para luchar

Hombres nuevos, creadores de la historia
Constructores de nueva humanidad
Hombres nuevos que viven la existencia
Como riesgo de un largo caminar

Danos un corazón, grande para amar
Danos un corazón, fuerte para luchar
Hombres nuevos, luchando en esperanza
Caminantes, sedientos de verdad
Hombres nuevos sin frenos ni cadenas
Hombres libres que exigen libertad

Danos un corazón, grande para amar
Danos un corazón, fuerte para luchar
Hombres nuevos, amando sin fronteras
Por encima de razas y lugar
Hombres nuevos al lado de los pobres
Compartiendo con ellos techo y paz

Danos un corazón, grande para amar
Danos un corazón, fuerte para luchar

This reading acknowledges the devastating mental health epidemic, trauma, and moral injury experienced by border enforcement personnel, remembering CBP Agent Ivan Rentería and praying for the healing of all caught in the machinery of division.

II. The Moral Weight of the Borderlands / El Peso Moral de las Fronteras

Leader: The crisis of our borderlands does not only wound those who try to cross; it fractures the souls of those tasked with maintaining the walls. We hold in our hearts the memory of Agent Ivan Rentería, and we acknowledge the heavy, invisible burden carried by those caught within hyper-militarized enforcement systems.

People: We pray for a world where security is built on human dignity rather than concertina wire. We ask for healing for the communities, families, and individuals who suffer moral injury under the pressure of cruel policies.

Leader: The scriptures teach us that when one part of the body suffers, the entire community carries the pain.

ALL:  Grant peace to the weary, comfort to the grieving, and the courage to dismantle the systems that dehumanize us all. Amen.

Scripture Reference / Referencia de la Escritura: "Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it." — Psalm 34:14

— Salmo 34:14

CANTO / SONG 3:  Make Me a Channel of Your Peace  Based on the famous “Prayer of Saint Francis,” this hymn became a symbol of hope during both World Wars. In 1967, songwriter Sebastian Temple set the prayer to a gentle folk melody. Released during the "folk-mass" boom of the late sixties, it quickly spread across the globe and remains one of the most beloved hymns in the world today.

Make me a channel of Your peace

Where there is hatred, let me bring Your love

Where there is injury, Your pardon Lord

And where there's doubt, true faith in You

Make me a channel of Your peace

Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope

Where there is darkness, only light

And where there's sadness, ever joy

Oh Master, grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console

To be understood as to understand

To be loved as to love with all my soul

Make me a channel of Your peace

It is pardoning that we are pardoned

In giving to all men that we receive

And in dying that we're born to eternal life

III. The Flight of the Paper Cranes / El Vuelo de las Grullas de Papel

Leader: Even in the desert of despair, the spirit of solidarity blooms. We honor the elders, the WWII concentration camp survivors, and the young activists who walked forty-five miles from Crystal City to Dilley to say, "Never Again."

People: With every step they took, they knit together the historical struggles of the past with the injustices of today. We remember the thousands of colorful origami cranes hung on fences of pain—a vibrant testimony of love defying confinement.

Leader: We are reminded that a community’s true strength is measured by its willingness to open its gates and provide a sanctuary of peace.

ALL:  May our community continue to build bridges where empires build walls. Let our voices be the wind that carries the cranes over the fences. Amen.

CANTO / SONG 4: Amazing Grace / Sublime Gracia

“Amazing Grace” is a universal 18th-century anthem of moral awakening, transformation, and survival. Originally written by a former slave ship captain who turned his back on a cruel system, the song focuses on themes of ultimate redemption, the unshakeable dignity of the individual, and the promise that those who are "lost" to human records are never forgotten.

Perdido fui, me rescató;

fui ciego, me hizo ver.

Mi corazón enterneció,

mis dudas disipó.

Preciosa fue la hora en que

rendí mi vida a él.

Jesús promete darme el bien;

confío siempre en él.

Mi protector y guía fiel

me llevará al hogar.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now am found;

Was blind, but now I see.

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear,

The hour I first believed.

IV. The Unnamed Dreams of the Rio Grande / Los Sueños Anónimos del Río Bravo

Leader: We turn our eyes to the waters of the Rio Grande.  We stand on its banks to remember those whose lives ended in its currents. We do not know all their names, and we cannot read their titles, but we know their sacred worth.

People: Their names may be lost to human records, but they are carved into the palm of the Divine. Their dreams of safety, of feeding their children, and of a better future are not forgotten by this community.

Leader: In our silence, we hold space for the families left behind who watch the horizon, waiting for a word that may never come.

ALL:  River of tears, become a river of healing. We promise to keep watch. We promise to remember. Amen.

People: We will speak out for the root causes of displacement. We will advocate for the safety of the migrant, the dignity of the enforcement worker, and the healing of our borderlands.

Leader: Let us go forth knowing that love is louder than any law of exclusion.
